Su Blackwell

I came across this artist through research for my project and she is amazing. I little disappointed to find her as she has created all I wanted to create and more, but you cant dwell on whats all ready been done, I just have to keep going and make my work my own. Heres her website....she is really inspiring.

Film Experimantation
Here is a video that I made using the cut out butterfly's hummingbirds and dragonflies. Its quite basic at the moment but with a little bit of practice I might be able to make something a bit more professional. I have ideas of my dress or outfit walking down the catwalk with the print being film projected onto its white fabric. incorporating film with fashion. The music was taken from you tube.

Butterfly stories!
I have been creating my own fantasy stories around my secret garden theme, and then creating 3d objects to illustrate the stories. These are some butterfly's I made out of an old charles dickens story. Eventually i will print my story onto paper and use that instead. But what really interested me with these is the shadows that were created and how they might look on a dress themselves as a print.
Suzi Mclaughin

Recently i visited the Great Northern Contemporary Crafts fair and was astounded by the work that i saw there. It was great for inspiration and some of the work really shone out for me.
Suzi Mclaughin was just one of them but I thought I would share with you.
I really like the idea of using paper to create a foliage, especially as my theme is secret garden. Recently we have been given access to a laser cutter at uni and i think this could be quite for my project.

With a new year comes a new project...and after much deliberation I have settled on the idea of 3 Dimensional fashion. I have studied 3D in the past and hope I can bring these skills into my work.
I wanted to look a bit into surrealism and a Secret Garden theme. I want to look at films like Pans Labyrinth; Coraline and Alice and Wonderland for their use of garden objects in a magical surreal way.
I want to work with installation and styling, but without getting too bogged down with outcomes, first I will just be researching all the elements that could be used in my work.
I created this mood board with just stereotypical images from the garden. But I plan to be more experimental with my images.

INTERACTIVE WALLPAPER
I feel like my interests are moving towards Interior Design a lot more lately. It has always been an interest of mine and it was always “what I wanted to be when I grew up”. This of course changed to fashion, as I got older. Throughout the course I have realised the connections between the two, especially as I have learnt ‘Textile Design’ not just ‘Fashion Design’. Of course fashion still interests me, but as the course is drawing to an end we are asking ourselves, what will we do when it’s all over? Which Is actually an extremely scary question.
With all this on my brain I have been prompted to network and interact with people who have gone through the same experiences and come out the other end successfully.
Through the grapevine I heard about a local artist called Rachel Kelly who had established her own company and style since she graduated. Her company ‘Interactive Wallpaper’ is extremely successful and has been used to decorate Manchester Topshop, the BBC and many other esteemed establishments.
She is an interior designer that works on private commission’s to create bespoke wallpaper.
After getting in touch we arranged to meet up during the summer to talk about her work and her company and she was lovely!
She showed me around her studio and print room. I met her mother who helps to sort the administrative side of the business, leaving Rachel as much time as possible to get on with her designs.

After a few months away from my blog i have returned fresh faced and ready. I didnt feel like i had much work to blog but i have recently completed a project and i hope you all like it.
My inspiration has come from Africa. With the idea of collaberating with the charity 'TUSK TRUST' i have created a few scarf designs. The charity focusses on helping the endangered animals in africa and i wanted my scarves to have elements of this in them.
Although it is not obviously about 'TUSK TRUST' My plan was too raise awareness through the campaigning of my scarf.
